Muter Outdoor Fund Updates & Our 2018 Stakeholder Report

A little over a year ago, we reached out to ask for your help to honor the memory of John Muter and his love of the outdoors by supporting a new scholarship program in his name. As friends, family and supporters of the Muter Outdoor Fund, we are delighted to share with you the many significant milestones and accomplishments we have achieved in the past year. Our 2018 stakeholder report introduces our inaugural cohort of John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship recipients and details our first-year achievements. A few notable highlights include:

  • Establishing the Muter Outdoor Fund as a Michigan not-for-profit organization.

  • Applying for, and receiving, tax-exempt status as a public charity from the IRS under section 501(c)(3).

  • Launching our new website: www.muteroutdoorfund.org.

  • Developing an application, selection criteria and an outreach plan for the scholarship.

  • Awarding $1000 scholarships to three impressive students from a highly-qualified pool of 23 applicants.

  • Receiving media coverage about our work in Woods-N-Water News, The Arenac County Independent, The Oakland Press, and The Morning Sun.

Your support has helped make all of this possible. We’re looking forward to continuing the John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship program in 2019 and to recognize another cohort of students who embody John’s passion for introducing others to the outdoors. But we need your continued support to keep it going.

We encourage you to take some time to review our 2018 stakeholder report and consider making another contribution. You can make a tax-deductible donation on our website, www.muteroutdoorfund.org, or by mailing a check to Muter Outdoor Fund, P.O. Box 61, Chesaning, MI 48616.

As a board, we are also starting to explore new ideas for additional programs that advance our mission of engaging new audiences and new generations with Michigan’s rich outdoor heritage and help to keep John’s memory alive. As friends and family, we would especially love hearing from you if you have comments or ideas about the future activities and directions of the Muter Outdoor Fund. We would also appreciate your help in spreading the word about us to others – even to those who did not know John, but would be supportive of our work – who might want to help us expand our impact in Michigan.

We are proud of the groundwork we’ve laid to honor the legacy of John Muter, Bret’s father and our life-long friend. We hope you will join us.

Sincerely,

Bret A. Muter, President

Robert M. Johns, Secretary

Joseph R. Ruthig, Treasurer
