Introducing the Muter Outdoor Fund!

With Michigan’s fall in full swing, it is certainly hard not to think of John this time of year. Whether he was heading out to his deer blind on Drummond Island or taking one of his dogs out duck hunting on Saginaw Bay, John was always outside enjoying everything Michigan’s fall has to offer and sharing those experiences with his friends and family. It seems to be an especially fitting time to update you on the wonderful progress we have made with the John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship program and ask for your continued support.

The John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship will be the first program of the Muter Outdoor Fund—a new, Michigan-based not-for-profit organization established to honor John’s legacy by providing scholarships, grants, and other programs that engage new audiences with Michigan’s rich outdoor heritage. Our board of directors has been busy working behind-the-scenes to incorporate the nonprofit, file required state and federal paperwork, as well as strategizing on the organization’s structure, programs, and budget.

The John A. Muter Memorial Scholarship will recognize college sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated their commitment to introducing new audiences to fishing, hunting, and other forms of outdoor recreation in Michigan. We plan to begin advertising the scholarship program to college students beginning in early 2018 and will award the first scholarship(s) for the fall 2018 term.

To date, we have approximately $1,500 in our nonprofit account. These are funds that were raised during the Celebration of Life we hosted for John in December 2016 and from our initial online Go Fund Me campaign. This is a great start, but we have an ambitious vision to offer four or more $1,000 scholarships in 2018 as well as expand the activities of the Muter Outdoor Fund beyond scholarships to have an even greater impact in Michigan in the future.

We need your help to bring this vision to life. We are asking for your support to help carry on John’s legacy and passion for the outdoors in Michigan. You can make a tax-deductible contribution on our website (click here) or by mailing a check to: Muter Outdoor Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 61, Chesaning, MI 48616.

We thank you in advance for your support.
